Resolutions update #6

  1. Keep exercising. I ran 9 times for a total of 62.59 miles in July. I also did strength training once and yoga twice. While John and I were on vacation we snorkeled and swam a lot, hiked 5 miles, stand up paddleboarded, and kayaked. (We also sat around a lot.)
  2. Eat more veggies. I still haven't started tracking how many servings of veggies I eat per day but I did download an app...I just haven't figured out how to use it yet! I'm thinking I might be better off just using a handwritten journal...
  3. Enjoy the moment. Still trying!
  4. Make a baby. Still trying on this one too! I really thought this was the month because I felt weird toward the end of our trip and after we got home...but it wasn't. :-(
  5. Read for pleasure. I read SO much on vacation! I finished Kushiel's Avatar, read at least 12 Sports Illustrated magazines, and started Kushiel's Scion.
  6. Give thanks every day. I took a little hiatus from posting these during vacation but I thought about what I was thankful for a lot. This month I was especially thankful for being able to go on vacation to an absolutely amazing location.
  7. Explore (more of) Chicago. Hmm...I can't think of anything new that we did in Chicago in July...oh well!

Day 216

Today I'm thankful for a relatively uneventful first day back to work after vacation.

Days 214-215

Yesterday I was thankful for my husband. It wasn't necessarily anything he did, but spending time with Keith and the new girl he's seeing made me super thankful for him. It's good to have little reminders of how lucky I am, even if everything isn't perfect all the time.

Today I'm thankful I got out for a run, even though it wasn't as far as I wanted to go. It did a whole lot for improving my mood!

Days 212-213

Yesterday I was thankful for a whole day at home to catch up on emails, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. The only other productive thing we did was buy groceries. It was much needed day of rest after 24 hours of travel.

Today I'm thankful to be involved with the Chicago Scholars organization. I volunteered at the First Look Career Conference for college students this morning and was able to sit in on the luncheon part. I've met so many amazing Chicagoans through this organization!

Days 202-211*

I'm not going to do individual posts for each of these days. Every one of these days I was thankful to be on vacation in a stunningly beautiful location with my (mostly) wonderful husband. On our third day, I was especially thankful that our lost suitcase arrived (though I handled it pretty well until then if I do say so myself). I was also thankful for safe travels and fun adventures.

Days 199-201*

Day 199 - I was thankful for getting a pedicure. It felt so good, especially the foot massage!

Day 200 - I was thankful for a great morning workshop with my Chicago Scholars.

Day 201 - I was thankful to get in my 17 mile training run with Natallie before flying to Tahiti!

Day 198

Today I'm thankful for a good day at work, the kind of day where I really like my job. It's nice to have those every once in a while!

Day 197

Today I'm thankful for a great 5+ mile Pizza in the Park run. It's so awesome that our local running store hosts this event once a month. Can't get much better than getting in a run with other runners and coming back to free pizza and beer.

Day 196

Tonight I'm thankful for a tough yoga session. Gotta get that cross training in to improve my running. My arms are definitely gonna be sore in the morning.

Day 195

Today I'm thankful to have my coworker back after she was on vacation last week. My turn for vacation comes next week...woohoo!

Day 194

Today I'm thankful for a relaxing but productive day at home. I definitely need my time at home to recharge.

Day 193*

I'm thankful for a fun unstructured Chicago Scholars cohort event. Three of our five scholars and two of three mentors met at Panera for lunch. We were there for almost two hours! It was so fun! Andre solved his Rubik's cubes over and over again while the rest of us tried to catch on. I'm so excited for another great year with Chicago Scholars!

Day 191

I'm thankful for a great evening with John. We braved the crowds and checked out the Taste of Chicago, sampling quite a few of the "taste" portions from various restaurants. We both liked the alligator sausage from Chicago's Dog House and the potstickers from Star of Siam the best. We had dessert too...a peanut butter filled chocolate donut from Stan's Donuts, watermelon Italian ice, and churritos. Yum! Plus, we were home by 7. (Yes, I'm old.)

Day 190

Today I'm thankful for a wonderfully relaxing yoga class.

Day 189

Today I'm thankful that my husband took care of dinner for me so I could come home from work, go for a run, and then eat. Thanks, hunny!

Day 188

Today I'm thankful for a sweet thank you card from a friend. It was so nice to get something fun in the mail after a blah Monday at work.

Day 187

Today I'm thankful for a great long run (14 miles!) with Natallie. The first 7 miles felt super easy...the last 7 miles weren't so easy but we still did it! I'm also thankful that John (and Keith) took me out for brunch afterwards. Yum!

Resolutions update #5

Oops...I forgot to do a separate update for May so this one is for May and June!
  1. Keep exercising. I ran 9 times for a total of 40.32 miles in May and I ran 12 times for a total of 65.88 miles in June. Natallie and I added Thursday morning interval runs to our Tuesday evening and weekend runs. I ran the North Harbor Tower 5K and Universal Sole 4 Mile Classic in May with John. Natallie and I also ran the Cinco de Miler together and had personal bests. I did strength training with John once in May but not at all in June (boo!). I participated in the SELF Workout in the Park in May. John and I also explored the San Antonio missions by B Cycle, biking 12+ miles.

  2. Eat more veggies. I still haven't started tracking how many servings of veggies I eat per day but I did download an app...I just haven't figured out how to use it yet!
  3. Enjoy the moment. Still trying!
  4. Make a baby. Still trying on this one too! John has a couple of slight abnormalities but nothing treatable and nothing that should prevent us from conceiving.
  5. Read for pleasure. I finished The Book Thief on the way to San Antonio in May and then didn't pick up a book again until June 30th. Yikes! Currently reading Kushiel's Avatar by Jacqueline Carey.
  6. Give thanks every day. I forgot to post a whole bunch these last couple of months. But, I always think of something throughout the day, whether I get to posting it or not.
  7. Explore (more of) Chicago. Well, John, Keith, and I went to a new brunch spot (Kanela Breakfast Club) before a Cubs vs. Brewers game in May. I also tried out a couple of new restaurants with friends (Del Seoul and TWO) the weekend Aubrey visited Chicago. Yay!

Day 186

Today I'm thankful for a quiet but productive day at home.
